{"id":476,"date":"2024-12-17T17:38:46","date_gmt":"2024-12-17T17:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/policies.pstcc.edu\/?page_id=476"},"modified":"2025-10-31T16:49:33","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T16:49:33","slug":"policy-060710","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/policies.pstcc.edu\/?page_id=476","title":{"rendered":"POLICY 06:07:10"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BEREAVEMENT LEAVE<\/h2>\n\n\nThis policy is consistent with Tennessee Board of Regents Policy No. 5:01:01:09.\n\nPurpose\n\nIt is the policy of the Tennessee Board of Regents and Pellissippi State Community College to provide all regular, full-time and part-time employees time off without loss of pay due to the death of an immediate family member as defined below, consistent with T.C.A. \u00a7 8-50-113.\n\nDefinitions\n\nImmediate family shall be deemed to include spouse, child, step-child, parent, step-parent, fosterparent, parent-in-law, sibling(s), grandparents and grandchildren and other members of the family who reside within the employee\u2019s home.\n\nPolicy\n<ol type=\"I\"><li> Bereavement Leave\n<ol type=\"A\"><li> An employee who is absent during their regularly scheduled work week due to the death of an immediate family member shall receive payment for reasonable and customary days absent as listed below:\n<ol type=\"i\"><li> Three (3) days paid leave in the event of the death of an employee\u2019ssibling, grandparent, foster parent, or parent-in-law;\n<\/li><li> Five (5) days paid leave in the event of the death of an employee\u2019s parentor step-parent; and\n<\/li><li> Ten (10) days paid leave in the event of the death of an employee\u2019sspouse, child, or step-child.\n<\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>  The TBR and PSCC Sick Leave Policy references the use of sick leave in the event of death of other family members not covered under the definition of immediate family.\n<\/li><li>  In addition to the bereavement leave set out above, sick leave not to exceed two (2) days may be granted at the discretion of the appropriate approving authority in the instance of death of an immediate family member.\n<\/li><li> At the discretion of the appropriate approving authority, the employee may take leave as provided per policy on non-consecutive days.\n<\/li><li>  Regular part-time employees, including academic personnel scheduled to carry less than a full teaching load or its equivalent, regardless of probationary status, shall be eligible to receive bereavement leave on a prorated basis equal to the percentage of their employment.\n<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\nSources: TBR Policy 5:01:01:09; T.C.A. \u00a7 49-8-203; T.C.A. \u00a7 8-50-113\n\nAdopted by TBR September 16, 1988\nRevised by TBR June 30, 1989\nRevised by TBR September 25, 1995\nRevised by TBR March 7, 1997\nRevised by TBR December 7, 2007 (Approved by Finance and Administration, January 23, 2008)\nRevised by TBR September 20, 2013\nReviewed\/Recommended: President\u2019s Council, November 27, 2023 \nApproved: President L.
