ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT

Pellissippi State Community College acknowledges the interests of our students, faculty, and staff in protecting and preserving our natural resources and other environmental assets.
The College shall conduct all its affairs in accordance with the dictates of sound environmental protection practices, including pollution prevention wherever reasonably possible. The College shall also avoid, minimize and appropriately mitigate adverse environmental impacts. These undertakings extend to the construction, maintenance and operation of its systems and facilities, as well as to the inclusion of students, faculty, and staff in maintaining existing and future recycling and waste reduction programs.
In an effort to provide an atmosphere of responsible environmental stewardship, the college will support the following goals:

  • To implement and maintain an environmental management system that involves all the College’s program functions;
  • To establish, maintain and make available to the public appropriate performance indicators of the College’s exercise of its environmental stewardship and to consistently review these indicators as a basis to improve the College’s performance;
  • To comply with all environmental laws and regulations applicable to our operation and activities;
  • To assure that students, faculty, and staff of the College receive training appropriate to their functions concerning the College’s environmental responsibilities;
  • To communicate to contractors, designers, consultants and other participants in the College’s operations the management practices and compliance requirements established to further the aims of this Policy Statement;
  • To encourage students, faculty, and staff to participate in our goal of responsible environmental stewardship, and to communicate with the College about ways to increase the effectiveness of the College’s practices supporting this mission.
