EQUIPMENT USAGE

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to outline Pellissippi State Community College’s Equipment Usage
procedures.

Policy

Pellissippi State Community College equipment (including vehicles) may be checked out to employees
who have a college-related need for off-campus or mobile equipment use. The following will be used
to govern the use of college equipment:

  1. Employees using equipment are responsible for protecting it and using it only for appropriate
    purposes. Before equipment is checked out from a department for employee use on or off campus,
    Facilities should have tagged all items meeting inventory criteria (see Equipment Inventory and
    Property Control policy 05:12:00). Tag numbers and/or serial numbers should be recorded at the time
    of equipment checkout. No equipment may be removed from campus without proper authorization.
  2. Departments offering pools of equipment for checkout are responsible for ensuring items remain
    in proper working condition and are kept in a secure location when not checked out. The department
    is also responsible for tracking the items checked out to verify that they are returned when due.
  3. Employees who are assigned equipment for long-term use off campus will be responsible for
    periodically confirming their understanding of college policy and the status of equipment assigned
    to them.
  4. In cases of neglect, the employee will be responsible for the cost of replacing stolen or
    damaged equipment. Stolen or damaged equipment should be reported to Administrative Affairs for
    assessment of replacement fees. When appropriate security measures have been taken, stolen or
    damaged equipment will be at the expense of the college, not the employee.
  5. Employees who bring non-PSCC-owned equipment on campus will do so at their own risk. The
    college will not be responsible for damage to property owned by others that occurs on campus.
